St. Luke West, KY- Dr. Sonnanstine

Recommended Posts

Has anyone out there been banded by Dr. Sonnanstine? My banding isn't for 2 months, but I hear he's very good.

The best!! He was my lapband surgeon in July, 2006. I have lost 105 lbs. He is very supportive and his staff is super, too!

Ellenk,

were you a self pay or did you have insurance cover your surgery?

I'm a self pay, and I'm not sure what aftercare is covered, like fills, etc.

I thought I researched a lot, but have more questions now that I found this web sight.

Thanks for any info you can give.

I was self pay also. I believe that post op care and fills are covered for the first year. I haven't paid anything since my surgery.

Did you happen to get any prices from him on what his self pay fills cost, or should your port flip, how much he'd charge to flip it back, or if slippage occurs and you need to have another surgery?

I'm trying to cover everything, and didn't ask these questions to him yet. Thought you may know since you were self pay also.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

Lynette:)

Sorry, I didn't ask. Honestly, I tried not to think about having any problems and what the cost would be. Besides, I would pay anything to keep this band. It has been my lifesaver!

I understand, I'm just worried I guess of things happening that are out of my control. I'd pay anything to keep it too, and I don't even have it yet!!!!

Thanks for the information.

After 9 months I haven't had any band problems. I guess I worried a little before surgery too. I feel that if I follow all of the rules pretty closely (I'm not perfect!), I shouldn't have any problems. I think you should look on the bright side of all of this, relax and concentrate on how great you are going to feel and look after the pounds start coming off. You are in good hands with Dr. Sonnanstine and his staff. Good luck with your surgery and let me know if I can help in any way!

Thanks for the good luck, put I do plan to follow everything as closly as possible. I need this to work, and I'm ready to work hard for it.

Do you attend Monday night classes still? Mine start on May 28. If you're there, I'll see you. I'm hoping that meeting other patients of his will reassure me that I am in good hands. You've been the only reply to my post. It was suprising to me because of his background and experience that there aren't more out there. Maybe they don't have access to the internet.

Oh well, thanks for everything. You've been a great help, and you've done so well in 9 months. Congrats on the loss.:clap2:

I don't make to any support groups. I work out of town Monday through Thursdays every week. Instead, I am a lurker on most of the lapband boards for my support. Everything that I've ever had a question about, has usually been asked and answered! Good luck with your band and keep in touch!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
