Work Travel Experiences with the Sleeve...Any advice?

Recommended Posts

I work as a consultant and it seems I will need to travel for my next gig. It will most likely be the standard Monday through Thursday for anyone that works in the consulting world and am curious to know how many of you are in the same boat and how you have coped while being on the road. At this point, I have no restrictions on food but have been eating mostly homemade food. Would like to know what your experiences have been and if any of you are on myfitnesspal, would like to see what your typical days look like. Thanks in advance for any info.

Quest bars - they're delicious, each one is a full meal, they don't require refrigeration and they're so portable. I order them online directly from www.QuestNutrition.com, but you can get them at GNC stores. The difference between those two is that I find the ones purchased at GNC are somewhat stale, and the ones from Quest are fresh every time.

When eating out just order Protein, with healthy sides. Eat the Protein first.

i generally always call ahead to the hotel when i travel to get a menu e-mailed or faxed to me so i can pre-plan (this was before sleeve, more due to dietary issues). also find out about local restaurants, there are bound to be some little diners or Soup places or deli's where you could still get some good options. have fun!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
