New Here - Intro & Surgery Date Set - 7/21

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Carmen. I'm a 37 year old wife and mommy of 2. I have struggled with weight for the last 15 years, going up and down with no success at KEEPING it off.

I finally bowed to my PCP's advice, sought out a bariatric specialist, and after giving it several months of thought, decided to proceed with a RNY Bypass.

I've done a ton of reading, both about the medical details and individual people's experiences. As I told my surgeon, I'm 50% excited and 50% nervous.

The hardest part has been the last few days of just liquid/shakes. I'm so hungry, I can't even sleep at night. And I still have 4 days to go!

Anyway, this forum was highly rated, and I'm very happy to be here to share, learn and participate in this journey with all of you!

Thanks for letting me babble. :)

Carmen

Welcome Carmen! You picked a great place, lots of really wonderful people on the site. Are you only able to have Clear Liquids or can you do strained cream Soups? If so, I found Campbell's cream of potato Soup (strained and made with milk) really curbed the hunger. Good luck!

Hi Angel!

I'm currently able to "eat":

broth

Protein shakes

Popsicles

Jello

Low-Fat/Fat-Free Cream Soups

I have tried any and all combos, and for around 75% of the day, I'm ok, but around 6-7pm I get RAVENOUS - and nothing makes the hunger abate. It's really awful and follows me to bed, keeping me up at night!

I only have 2 days left, so I figure I'll just push through. Hopefully, I will come out on the other side eating the same things, I'm smaller portions, without feeling so darn hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
