Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?

Recommended Posts

Hardest thing for me at 3.5 weeks post op is that my life revolves around food more than it ever has. Getting in 5 small meals a day takes substantial planning and constant attention to eating. Its annoying at times. Before surgery, i could just plan on finding something for three meals a day where ever I was at the time. Of course that contributed to the mess of my body. With that said, I would do it again in a heart beat. This has put me on the road to a happier, healthier life.

Source of Life liquid Gold (bought on Amazon) i what I used. Recommended by a pharmacist friend who is 87 and looks far healthier than me. He said it was all I needed. It has 100 mcg. Biotin, but I took additional Biotin for the hair (still lost hair). I have added I compared the ingredients to Bariatric Advantage Multivitamins I bought, and Source of Life had more Vitamins by far. Two teaspoons a day, and a 30 oz. bottle lasted about 3 months. I think you can look at the supplement facts online and compare.

I always took Source of Life Gold chewables before surgery....recommended by my mom years ago because she has a very sensitive stomach and multiple GI issues. They were a yummy "dessert" for me at bedtime. But after surgery, EVERYTHING tasted too sweet to me. I tried their liquid, but still too sweet. I ended up switching to Garden of Life Vitamin Code for Women because it comes in capsules, so there's nothing to taste. Very comparable to the Source of Life Gold and I prefer whole food based Vitamins.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
