micmt 120 Posted July 17, 2014 Just saw the surgeon today to get this journey started and I told him I was interested in the sleeve. He told me that he prefers the complete bypass since the sleeve requires some work on the diet end and you can cheat on it. He wants me to be on a 1200 cal diet for three months. Really? If I could do that by myself I would not need surgery. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
fccm04 39 Posted July 18, 2014 Although doctors have an educated opinion about medical stuff and what not, before I deceided on a surgrey I completed my own research. I would not let him tell me which surgery he felt was best, I would tell him what surgrey I wanted. He would have to do some serious convincing to change my mind. I would get a second opionon if that's not what you want. Good luck! 1 swtpea637 reacted to this

micmt 120 Posted July 25, 2014 I will see how the next appt goes. I'm more on the fence now between the sleeve or the RNY
freelyme 149 Posted July 25, 2014 My subtle opinion is that we pay them for their skill and their professional opinions. That being said, you are the patient and can always disagree. If they are backing up their professional opinions with facts (which they should) they may have valid points to consider but you are the patient and you ultimately make the decision...take some time to research and make the best decision for your needs! Good luck!!!

jnfisher 31 Posted July 25, 2014 Do what you want. I'm sure you've researched this. And. You can "cheat" with the bypass too. I have a coworker who had bypass like six years ago. And she's gained over half of her weight back. It all depends on how you use your tool. Plus sleeve is less invasive overall.
