Just banded on 4/18/07

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to be here, and to be on the other side of this surgery. I was banded on 4/18/07 and I've lost 24 lbs total. (about 12 of that was during my pre-surgery diet.) I'm feeling better everyday and my incisions are healing nicely. But I need to ask some of your opinions on something. I'm still hungry. I eat until I THINK I should stop. I'm not really sure if I'm feeling full. Is this suppose to be a definite feeling? Usually it's around a 1/2 cup full of Soup. When I stop eating, in my mind, I feel like I could eat more, but I don't because I know I shouldn't. Then about an hour later, I'm starving again. Sometimes, I just think the "hunger" is in my mind. But my stomach continues to growl and make horrible noises. Maybe my band isn't tight enough, or maybe it's still new and I need to get used to eating in smaller quantities. Do you guys have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Robin. I'm glad you found us.

Usually once the initial swelling goes down many people find that they feel very little restriction. It's only after a fill or fills that you reach the "sweet spot". IMO I think it's still good to stick to the 1/2 cup rule, even if you can handle more. It's part of getting into the bandster rules habit.

Try drinking more Water when you feel hungry between meals. It works for me.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
