Banded Bandit Birthday!

Recommended Posts

Well, I am scheduled to me with my surgeon next Thursday 7/24/14!! I am nervous but very excited. I have been on a 1500 calorie, high protien diet for the past few weeks. It was hard at first but I am good now and I have lost 12LBS so far!!!!! I have been assured by my nurse that once I meet with the surgeon I will be scheduled very quickly. My birthday is the 17th of August and I would love to Celebrate that day with sugar free pudding! I kow that may sound crazy, but cake is part of what got me to where I am now. This birthday will be just that a "Birth Day" for the new me.

I am trying to make sure I have everything I can think of, so I am prepared. So I am asking for your help. Tell me what you bought, had or did that made your first weeks as a banded bandit easier, better or more comfortable. What were/are your MUST HAVES and things to stay away from?

I look forward to this journey ahead, and to sharing it with you! Be blessed and thank you!

Gasx or phasyme...the gas pains can be bad. Heat pad if the gas causes pain in your left shoulder, extra pillows, ice pack for your incisions, Water, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, and broth. I slept on my sofa. Also wore a band around my belly. Hope this helps and congratulation!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
