COVER YOUR INCISIONS! Eficka here experienced the unfortunate side-effect of having her incisions become reddened and they have not faded. You should not expose surgical incisions to the sun until about a year after healing. Other than that, you should be just fine.

Great question, I have been tanning and getting ready to go back next week. I would have never thought about that.

Thank u for this thread. I've been considering starting back to the tanning bed myself. But my surgeon did tell me that if I were to be exposed to a tanning bed or the sun, it could cause my incisions to scar worse making them redder or a dark purple color. I never even thought about sun-block chap stick. What a great idea! Thanks!

I do. I even use the new high pressure beds. The one I use is awesome. I am fairly dark complected anyways but this one is 20 bucks each time you use it but I've been 4 times and am dark, dark dark. I love it.

Hey y'all,

I was baned on 1/24 and started tanning a month later. I go 5x a week and never covered my incisions. If anything tanning had made them fade they're hardly noticeable. But, every one's different. I will say this though in my case tanned fat looks way better then white fat. Tanning makes you look 10lbs lighter.

I'm getting ready to go in a little bit! I agree...why chance it that your scars might look worse so protect them but otherwise go for it! Now, I'm a year out and my scars actually look a little less noticeable since tanning but if you're less than a year out...cover those puppies just to be safe!

Just a word of warning and I know you all have heard this before. I was a sun goddess in my former life and I am PAYING THE PRICE. I go every 4-6 months (and will the rest of my life) to have the pre-cancer spots burned off my body (my record was 13 in a sitting) at the dermatologist. They take this cannister and shoot something I figure is akin to "liquid nitrogen" on the spot for several seconds. Let me tell you...it HURTS. Then a big blister wells up, takes two weeks to heal and more often than not leaves a scar. That's what you have to look forward to....

Kacee,

Thanks For Info...i Know That Has To Be Very Painful...i Have Had To Have Old Age Spot Burned Off My Face...they Say They Freeze It , But It Feels Like A Hot Fire....and Mine Had The Blister And Took Two Weeks To Heal...you Can Still See The Spot But It Is A Lot Lighter...i Plan On Covering My Face To Tan....i Can Always Wear Darker Make-up....i Just Hate Being Snow White...and I Agree With Ryan...tanned Fat Looks Much Better Than White Fat...

I sure agree with you. The cellulite looks better dark that bright white.

Well since were on the subject of tanning... Has anyone ever used the "mister spray on tan"?Back in my skinnier days, I use to tan all the time, but I havent gone in several years. Ive become more health conscience though and would like to try the spray on. I have a wedding to go to in July and it would be nice to not be mistaken for Casper!!! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
