3 days post-op and I cry a lot. Did I do the right thing? When will I feel "normal" again? The anxiety is overwhelming. I try to walk but have no energy and yet I can't relax. I can't tolerate the Protein drinks so I am drinking sugar free instant caranation Breakfast and pureed Soups. Anyone else feel this way?

You may be having an adverse reaction to the anesthesia, it's perfectly normal but understandbly disturbing. Walking and drinking plenty of fluids will get it flushed out of your system sooner. You may want to talk to your doc about a temporary anti anxiety med just to help through this time. It will get better. Try to relax, do things that will distract you from it. Go shopping, take in a movie.

Good luck, it does get better!

Even though we were in and out of surgery like a drive thru it was still a major surgery on our bodies. It is normal to feel all kinds of different ways. Just one day at a time is all you should expect of yourself right now. Everything will be fine and soon you will be loosing and it just gets better, at least for me.

Good luck, anxiety is very difficult. If it gets to be too much don't be afraid to get help and ALWAYS run things by the surgeons office. They are your rock right now and of course your friends here are willing to help.

Best of luck!

Colleen

One other thing... if you're still on painkillers, they may be contributing to depression / anxiety. If you are on painkillers you might try tapering off significantly.

@@NYDani The first three days out of surgery are the toughest. You are going to be OK, normal and better then normal very soon.

Why are you crying? Is it from pain, fear, what are you having anxiety about? If you are worried because you are not holding down all the shakes just yet don't fear. Try some ice pops, or Italian ices they work wonders for your hydration, they make you feel pretty good about eating them ( I felt like a little kid again!) and they help big time for your internal swelling.

Please feel free to Personal Message me I see we have the same Dr. I'd be happy to answer any questions or help in anyway I can.

I agree, I can not take heavy duty pain meds, they make me nuts! I had an out patient procedure at Christmas time last year and I cried for 3 days straight!! Finally figured it was the pain meds, when I stopped the meds I stopped crying and feeling awful....Good Luck

I was banded the same time as you, and I'm feeling much better already. I'm easily gulping down the Protein Shakes, warm tea, plus I'm taking the (chewable) Vitamins as directed by my nutritionist. I still have a little bit of pain, especially when I move around in bed, or try to get up from the recliner etc. but overall the pain is much better and I'm feeling good, plus the weight keeps on coming off! So I just wanna tell you to hang in there, and keep strong! There are much better days ahead, and I'm sure one day we'll all be very glad that we did this!

Hang in there kid. Could be all the above and maybe you are like me and like to eat when you get anxious or depressed and you just can't do that right now. So, have a good cry. Get a note book and right out your feelings. If you are depressed look into it and write down what is going on. If you are happy do the same. If you are angry, do the same. I think you get the pic. If it last more than a few days or a week you might call the doctor.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
