Did anyone else's dr put them on puréed 24 hours after surgery? From what I'm reading most people are on liquids for two weeks. I didnt think twice about it till I started reading some recent posts about dilation and slipping. Should I go ahead and just stick with liquids?

I had to do Clear Liquids for 1 week and then full liquid, the pureed and then all food.

Regardless I would follow your own surgeon and if it is not possible see what else they have for you. Stay in close touch with them or whomever is taking care of you post op.

Good luck to you!

Colleen

I agree with @@Colleen C follow what your surgeon recommends. If you are not comfortable with it, knowing that others have different protocols ask them about it.

Remember the Dr. is there for you and to take care of you and answer all your questions, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and ask your questions.

Good Luck!

I understand how you are feeling. Everyone's post-op diet seems to be different? I was on Clear Liquids for the first 48 hrs only then days 3-7 liquids. Weeks 2 and 3 with be thicker liquids and smooshies. Fourth week I start solids... we just need to follow our doctors orders and listen to our band. You'll learn so much from this site though. Good luck. I'm 2 weeks post-op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
