Hello any help would be great as my date is set for July 23rd. I have blue shield and they denied me because they said I was missing a paper. We re faxed it in and they said they can take an additional 5 days. Has anyone heard of this? Has anyone had this happen to them? Will it take the full 5 days at that point? Some say it's quicker but I'm worried.

I have BCBS-Federal and the same thing happened to me. I did not know that I needed to submit proof that I had not been treated in the past year for alcohol or substance abuse. However, after I submitted the note from my primary physician, I was approved the following day. The catch was however, I didnt find out til three days after that, and that is only because I was calling the insurance company regarding something else, and asked if they could check on it for me while I was on the phone. I was the one that let the bariatric coordinator at my surgeons office know that I was approved lol. She did not receive notice from the insurance company until one or two days after that smh.

Im scheduled to be sleeved on the 29th in North Carolina. Words cant describe how excited and NERVOUS I am. I smile just thinking about how my life is going to change, but then I hesitate to enjoy the thoughts of the journey Im about to embark on, bc I still have thoughts of "what if it doesnt work for me". Yes Ive seen and read soooo many success stories (I think Ive become addicted to looking at wls pictures on instagram lol), but being that I have been overweight since elementary school, I still find it difficult to imagine a life in which things are different.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
