TIA hi... im banded now for over two years. ive just had my gall bladder removed and some more fill put into the band... im now on 3mm. Im just taking things as i eat. I cant eat much at all so im not having to measure. One thing though, im run down... had a lot of stress with death in the family etc, surgery... and now im quite run down and unwell. Im going to start taking in juices as a daily requirement, and i have plenty of Protein with lentils and Beans in Soups and stews. i hope this helps
B-52 7,113 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) Early on, my main concern, as was my Dr.'s, was to get my band adjusted properly, and measuring and calorie counting was secondary... Now that it is, I do not have to worry about portion sizes, because I can eat just so much.....as far as calories, considering I eat so little as compared to my old life, I just make sure what I do eat is the best choices I can make....and Protein is always first on my mind... Been that way for some time now and will remain that way for the rest of my life...my NEW life. So when I read posts such as yours, my immediate thought is "How is your band performing?" Is your band doing anything or are you relying on your self to get it done.... If I had to rely on myself, then I would have failed within a year, probably sooner, just as I did with so many diets in the past... There is a reason I needed Bariatric Surgery... 2muchfun 8,927 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) Like B-52 said, if your band is adjusted properly and you listen to the stop signals, measuring may not be a necessity. If you're one of those whose band is on the loose side, you may need a scale and a few measuring cups? I just eyeball food that goes on my plate. Sometimes I'm right on and other times I can't eat it all. I trust my soft stop senses. recipes? I just eat normal healthy foods. No special recipes. I pay attention to fat content, carb content and processed food content. So, it's mostly fish, chicken low fat beef with veggies and maybe a few complex carbs. Seasonings help a lot. Lady VS 1,147 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) As B52 said, your band is the key. If it's properly adjusted then you shouldn't worry about measuring. I haven't measured food in over two yrs. I can't eat that much. I know I don't get all that Protein in. I just wing it day by day. Good luck with getting back together. labwalker 1,177 Posted July 17, 2014 My first concern is Protein... I need at least 60 to 100 grams a day according to my doctor. I choose high Protein foods that have little fat or cargs--fish, turkey, chicken, etc... I weight the protein foods to keep track. Foods with carbs I'll measure with measuring cups or on a scale to keep track of how many carbs I am eating. There are some very good online food tracking programs that will show you exactly what you are eating: carbs, protein, fat and total calories. You use this information to adjust you foods to meet your nutritional needs. My NUT advised me not to worry about the quantity of the foods I eat, but to be aware of the quality of the foods I eat.
