Can they discriminate against a serious mental illness?

Recommended Posts

I have read on some sites that bariatric surgery won't be done on somebody with a serious mental illness in which I have. I am confused, I am not incompetent or incoherent I can make my own rational decision.

Somebody please let me know thank you

It's not discrimination if they find someone not stable enough to have surgery. The hormone changes, the mood swings, the possible regret and self doubt along with the stalls and gains along the way...it's a veritable pool for mental unbalance at times.

Don't make assumptions. If you are interested in the surgery, make an appointment with a surgeon you are considering and ask the surgeon. Only then will you have an answer you can work with. No one on this site can answer your question regarding your situation. Even someone with the same diagnosis, whatever it is, can not say with any certainty that your situation is exactly the same. Ask your doctor.
