Pre-Op Appoinment july 22

Recommended Posts

So after 6 months going to appointments every four weeks to see what I ate during the day that my insurance required and going to a physic consult, endoscopy and nutritionist also blood work. I finally got approval for surgery. Now I have a Appointment on July 22, 2024 for pre-op. My question is what to expect for that day?????

My pre-op was just to make sure I,had done all the required blood work (dr requires cross and type etc but only 14 days before surgery). And any last minute questions I may have had for my dr. Then his assistant gave me a sheet of what to do the night before and morning. Of surgery, like showering, shaving and eating etc. every dr is going to be different but mostly just last minute things that need to,be done closest to,your surgery day. Good luck to you

My preop included getting a upper GI barium study ( just swallowed some thick koolaid tasting Fluid, while being x-rayed) I also had a renal/gallbladder ultra sound, cbc with type and cross, EKG, chest x-ray, surgeon visit, and I preadmitted to the hospital, and spoke with the preop nurse. Whew...its alot right, it took about 8 hours at the hospital.

It's different for everyone...my preop was just to have the surgeon clear you for surgery. I have a secondary preop the day before just to go over paperwork. I won't even see a doctor that day

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
