2 months out with hunger

Recommended Posts

im 2 months out and still feel hungry.. not as much as before the surgery but I definitely need to eat, I thought the feeling of hunger would just disappear?? Is it possible I have stretched my pouch out or is this feeling still normal?

From what I have read it all depends on the person. I've read stories where people just aren't hungry period, then others where they have the same feeling of hunger as before the surgery.

What i've noticed personally is that on the occasion where I go back to my old lazy ways (skip a workout, sit around watching TV, etc...) I feel much more hungry. The only time I've truly felt hungry when I keep myself busy is when I don't get enough Fluid. I think my body tricks my head into thinking anything "different" feeling is automatically hunger.

yes I agree sometimes I need to just drink some Water and the hunger goes away but then sometimes I actually need to eat something. I just don't wanna turn to snacking cuz im sure that's the worst thing to do

Glad you started this topic. I'm still pre-op but was having this conversation just this evening that I'm afraid I will still get hungry after surgery. Some people that I know that know people that have had surgery tell me these people still get hungry and eat. One person was even gaining weight back.

I agree, though, I think everyone reacts differently to everything. I think you just gotta find something within healthy means that works for you. Add more Water, more Protein, try to stay active and don't even allow yourself to think about eating when and if you know you shouldn't be.

I think it also depends on your reaction to hunger. I am 3 months out. I would rarely say I'm hungry, but I my stomach does feel different at some points and makes noises that my brain associates as hunger. If I ate the proper meal and I get those noises, I ignore them because I take that to be head hunger. Now, if I didn't eat enough Protein the meal before, then it's hunger and I deal with it. Sometimes just drinking helps. Sometimes a change of scenery helps. Sometimes I have to move a meal up to fix the problem. On rare occasions I end up with 3 meals and a snack.

Have you met with your nutritionist to see what you are eating and how you can make your meals last longer? Mine says a good high Protein meal eaten over 25 minutes will last at 5 hours.

yes I have met with my nutritionist at 1 month out I go back next month for my 3 month. I have started the gym more intense the past 4 days and it seems to be helping a lot. im even down 3 lbs since im trying to stick to 3 meals a day but I usually end up needing a cheese stick between lunch and dinner

My program recommends six "meals" a day. Then they give the criteria for how much Protein and Fiber you should eat at each "meal" and the limit of fat and sugars at each meal. It made a lot of sense to me and it's supposed to help with 1. Making sure to get your protein and fiber and 2. Keep you from getting to that hungry feeling. Seems like every program is so different! :) it sounds like you are doing all you can to stay on track! If it's head hunger hopefully you get over that hump soon! :)

My rule has been that if I think I am feeling hunger and it is not meal time, I drink first. We have to wait 30 minutes after drinking to eat so it really helps to make sure that it is food I need. 45 minutes is not going to kill me to wait for my meal or a snack. I have actually rarely needed to eat, normally drinking Water takes care of it. Make sure you are getting your recommended Protein at every meal, that will help too. It sounds like you are really working your plan. That is key. Keep up the good work.

My doctor and nutritionist also recommend snacking. I have 3 meals and 3 Snacks a day. My "meals" are pretty lightweight -- usually between 150-200 calories and my Snacks are smaller -- maybe 75-150 calories. I don't always get all the snacks in -- if lunch is a little late I might not have the afternoon one, for example.

Even just a plum or a spoonful of Peanut Butter for me counts as a snack. I can't imagine going 5 hours without eating even though I don't feel hunger, I think it would make my energy bottom out too much.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
