First visit to nutrition

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is my first visit with the nutritionist. Was wondering any ideas what we will be doing and talking about?

We got a packet of info for preop (postop is next visit) and went over that in good detail. Mainly she talked and gave us the opportunity to ask questions. We were given a little homework assignment to complete which is practicing things like no Water 30 minutes before, during and after the meal and documenting what it feels like doing that; looking at labels to make sure servings are below 10 for fat and sugar to prevent dumping, documenting how much Protein we eat each day, things like that. It was very informative and not intimidating at all. It was also in a small group setting.

Best of luck!

Carol

I had to have SIX NUT visits ......UGH

I really enjoyed my visits with my NUT. This is your expert - take advantage of their knowledge and put them to work for you. Ask about Protein shakes, what they recommend, what you should try pre-surgery. Ask about favorite meals and how (and when) you might enjoy them following surgery.

If you need to lose weight prior to surgery, ask for their help in reaching that goal. Mine encouraged me to begin tracking what I ate and that was how I found MyFitnessPal.com. A great tool which I believe has been critical to my success.

Think of a few good questions to discuss. You are paying for the time, get the most out of it.

My visit with the nutritionist was one on one, face to face. She was super nice and went over some basic info, gave me a couple of packets of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder to try, and told me about myfitnesspal.com where I've been tracking all my intake. It was very relaxed and no pressure. Nothing to worry about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
