Thank you !!! Right now, I am just afraid it wont work for me! Nothing else has, so its hard to believe. Me being thin? I may as well fly to the moon and set up a tent and make smores....lol!! Its hard to believe it can really happen for me. Its my dream for so long. I am ready mentally to change my life I just need help. Seeing all the people that this has helped is so encouraging. It make me so excited to think maybe I wont be 'the one' it doesnt work for.

Welcome!

When you have the right mind set you can accomplish many things and you sound like you're there.

This surgery is a big step and you've made it by deciding to do it for yourself.

That takes a lot of courage to do this surgery and don't let anyone including yourself stop you from getting what you want, which is better health.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

A lot will depend on your mental attitude towards the process and your success. I've always made sure to keep a positive attitude and it's paid off. Tomorrow will mark my 4 month anniversary and I'm happy to be just oh so shy of 60lbs down. If you follow your surgeons plan, make sure to get in your fluids and do the work you'll do great. Always remember that everyone here is on your side and willing to help so ask away, do your homework and you'll do great.

"It won't work for me"...I've been having this silly little voice in the back of my head telling me this all along. I'm preop (month 3/6) as well and I've been obese since age two (2!!!!). I've never had a normal life and this is my last option. Let's both MAKE it work. We can do this. We deserve it!! :)

I know it's hard to tell that irritating little voice to go take a hike but that's exactly what you need to tell it! It helped me pre-op to do lots of research, the more success stories I read the better I felt. There are books that you can purchase, one of the best books was written by Alex who is the founder of BariatricPal. It's called "The Big Book on the Gastric Bypass" just read and read until you feel more confident, this is still a tool...you have to know how to use it for it to be successful! You will get there though and you aren't likely to be the 1 in 500,000 that the bypass doesn't work for..just remember you control how well your new tummy works for you! Also, figure out what you want to do for exercise after the bypass...just immerse yourself in tools on how to be successful and eventually that stupid nagging voice will simmer down, you will have surgery and kick butt then you can tell off all the people including that voice that you beat them and you are on a way to a healthier you!! You'll look back in a year and find yourself giving someone else the same advice I'm giving you now so take it from people who have the experience...you got this girl!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
