Hello Just wanted to read a study on Lap Band Surgery that was carryed out in adults over 50 and the results. I am 59 years old with many health issues and will be banded in September. I was concerned because of my age. Well heres the information i found. Lap band IS safe in older people and the out come was no differant that younger people. I was glad to hear that.

Thank You Bajagal

I know a few folks who were on Medicare when they had their surgery... age is a consideration, but almost all doctors require extensive lab work, especially for elective major surgery. You can be as healthy at 75 as an unfit, inactive 50 year old adult who never exercises or watches what they eat. It is relative to one's lifestyle, IMHO. I was banded a few years after I retired at 61 yrs old and just before I went under Medicare.

I am 67 had my surgery Jan.2012. never felt better. have tons of energy love my new healthier life. I have lost 60 lbs. would like to lose 10 more but am not stressing about it. My diabetes is gone, , cholesterol low, blood pressure low. glad I made the decision and did not even consider that I might be too old. Now I am too old to wear a bikini but didn't want to do that in the first place.

That's great Sharpie! How long did you have diabetes and what kind of meds were you on?

I had diabetes since I was in my 40's and I was on metformin.. (really vile medicine) I was so happy that my A1C dropped so I could stop taking that medicine. I was on simvastisin for cholesterol and I no longer am on it. blood pressure was always in the 155 or over range. but they had not put me on meds yet. I now have normal blood pressure and haven't felt this good for 20 years. Thanks to my Band.. Love it.. recommend it..

Had my surgery when I was 59....had a long list of medical issues, some very serious, life threatening....was seeing 5 different Dr.'s on a regular basis....throw my bariatric surgeon in and that makes 6....all medical issues have been reversed....

Even my heart attack, can't reverse the damage done, but I put others to shame when I take my annual stress test.

I'm now 62, soon to be 63, and I feel and behave like someone 35 years younger....
