Hi. I just checked the BCBSNC MEDICAL POLICY UPDATES for JULY 15, 2014. This is what it said.... Requirement that patient be an active

participant in non-surgical weight reduction program for at least 6 months prior to surgery removed. I am sooo excited about this. I have met my deductibles and was going to be pushing it to get my surgery in before December this year.

I've been looking for this change since it was announced towards the end of June. Actually, I was practically stalking the website yesterday waiting for them to update. I wanted to read the fine print ASAP!!! So happy to see they haven't added some other crappy requirement in its place. My first appointment with my surgeon is TOMORROW so I can't wait to go in there and hopefully leave with a plan.

Yep, so excited about this change! I just completed my 3rd PCP visit but knowing I don't have to do the last three is FANTASTIC! I only have my gastroenterologist visit, which is next week, my psych eval and nutrition visits left! Getting close!!

I've got to meet with a nutritionist at my surgeons office. I'm wondering how many times I'll have to meet with him?

I'm Curious...

Are you saying they have removed the 6 month non-surgical weight production policy?? If so, that sucks like a big dog. i've wasted the last 6 months and 120 in copays. uggghhhhhh.....

Unfortunately for you (fortunately for those of us just starting) yes, that is what has happened. No more 6 month medically supervised diet program. Yes, you may have wasted some time and $$$, but look at is this way, at this point you should be able to get a surgery date asap and approval should be a breeze. The rest of us still have appointments like psych eval and NUT before we get that close. Sorry you had to go through it, but can't say I'm not thankful it's happened for myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
