I am new to this site. Preparing for Plication or Sleeve. If you had a Sleeve, do you wish you had a plication? or if you had a Plication, do you wish you had a sleeve? Still not sure about which procedure to have. Why would you want to keep your stomach? After being wrapped and stapled, there would be so much scar tissue, it probably wouldn't be useable anyway. I just want to make the right decision. Thanks for your help!!

I really haven't seen much of the placating but I would be worried about all of the fold causing food to get trapped early on. I love my sleeve and wouldn't change it for any of the other surgeries as it was the correct type for me. I agree with you that the way the puli action is done there really isn't any use for the excess stomach so why have it in there. Seems that it might be more worrisome down the road. However, that is really my own two cents.

Thanks for your quick reply. That is kind of what I was thinking - just wanted someone else's "two cents"!!

Plication or Sleeve. Honestly I had never heard of plication until now....so if course I googled it. I couldn't imagine having my stomach pulled, folded and stitch as I say in the video. Like you stated, I would be afraid of found getting stuck somewhere it shouldn't. Maybe I'm just bias BC I have the sleeve...but good luck with whichever you choose.

I did some research on this and found a couple websites:

http://www.endobariatric.com/weblog/2014/06/16/sleeve-plication-vs-sleeve-gastrectomy/

http://verticalsleevetalk.com

I would vote for the sleeve.

Hope this helps.

The main difference I can think of, is with the Sleeve, part of the stomach is removed. And if you believe in the hunger hormone, Ghrelin, produced in the stomach, then it will reduce "head hunger".

With Plication, you still have the entire stomach, and the same Ghrelin production.

I am 7 days postop sleeve..never heard of this other an both my specialist never even brought this up..my stomach hormones had to go that's wat got me in this fat place...always growled. ..even while eating an after...so I did it after 15 yrs of thinking about it wasn't sure I qualified an sure enuff from start to finish 3 month process. I stand by my desicion. ..had hernia repair along with it. Had some esophagus spasms last 5 days didn't do much drinking but much better now...with the other looks like u would still have the hunger hormones. ..I wouldn't go thru this with that still there an affecting my hunger...my 2 cents..I'd do sleeve. ..best wishes..

Isn't plocation still investigational? Not proven?

Thanks for everyone's input. I feel like if I'm going to go through with this, I definitely need to rid of that nasty hormone!! Something about that plication that just doesn't seem safe. I can't believe that Tricare will not pay for my sleeve, but yet pay for Gastric Bypass. This site has really been helpful. I hope I can be as much help to others, as you guys have been for me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
