Medical Schools/ Teaching Hospitals.....question

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody,

I am hoping to find some answers. I live about 40 minutes north of Boston in Southern New Hampshire. Their are a few really great medical schools and teaching hospitals in the area. I am 11 months post-op and am starting to plan on having a lower body lift (or TT ), neck lift, breast lift and possibly augmentation. within the next year.

Does anyone know if the medical schools offer plastics at a discounted rate? I know that Tufts Dental School offers a sliding fee scale. I have no idea who to call and ask.

Leaving the US is not an option for me, so I am trying to find a less expensive option without compromising quality. Any suggestions?

Here is a little history. HW 289, CW 176, Goal 164. I am hoping to be at goal for my 1 year surgery anniversary on Aug. 26th. I currently have a turkey gobbler neck, my panni is hanging pretty low, my entire lower half is "droopy", and my breasts are completely deflated. Don't get me wrong I love the way I look in clothes. I am much healthier than I was 1 year ago. I can strategically "place" body parts into my Spanx but it is not a pretty sight when the spanx come off. I cannot imagine spending $50,000 or more for vanity but I am willing to invest in me.post-174321-0-26669100-1405419991_thumb.jpg post-174321-0-75617500-1405419993_thumb.jpg

I know a fair number of teaching hospitals offer this. Johns Hopkins does, for example:

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/plastic_reconstructive_surgery/plastic_surgery/chief_resident_clinic.html

Here is a list of teaching hospitals in the Boston area:

http://www.cobth.org/Memberhospitals.html

You can explore each of their websites - once you go to the website, try doing a search for "plastic surgery" or "cosmetic surgery." If you can't find the information you need, call the hospital and ask for their department of plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery -- calling the department should get you the information you need. If you are willing to travel, maybe look for teaching hospitals in NY, or even check out the Johns Hopkins program if you are willing to go that far. I know they are very highly regarded overall and my understanding is that their plastic surgery teaching program is supposed to be one of the best in the country. Good luck!

I did my nose a couple years ago at eye and ear infirmary in NYC. They charges me $3000

They had a ton!!! Of plastics that they did and I won't mind returning when the time is right. The boob lift and implant was $4000 plus the implant cost. So the bigger you go the more it can be.

You just really have to do a lot of googling to find them.

Look for plastic surgery teaching clinics in your searches

I live in north jersey I know hey have them at:

NYU- Presby/Columbia, langone and cornell

Eye and Ear

Lenox hill

as a rule, teaching hospitals do almost ALL types of medical care because they are, after all, teaching...

i would do some serious research and find FIRST an awesome plastics guy who has practice privilages at a teaching facility, call his surgery coordinator and find out if some sort of deal can be had to go there. generally, docs who teach are still in the operating suite and involved with the case.

certainly NOT a bad option to consider. it's good to see that people will consider this option.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
