I'm 6 weeks post op and have been in a stall for 3 of those. (Lost 18lbs post op) I know in my brain and by what I read that stalls are normal. But let's all be honest, when it happens to you, you can't help but feel extremely frustrated. It brings back so many feelings of failure with all the diets I have tried before. Obviously every other diet I have tried ended in failure and it's hard to believe this one won't as well. I'm just so frustrated.

It's early....I was gaining weight 6 weeks after surgery, and I had my first fill 4 weeks after surgery....( I had Lap band surgery)

But then 1 year after surgery and I was 80% successful....shortly thereafter 100%

But again, you did not mention what surgery you had....

I feel the same frustration and fear. It's not so much this stall that's bothering me, but the thought that "what if I am one of the people who don't do well?" I am tracking everything I eat, following my doctor's food plan, but stuck for now.

I hope things get better for you soon!

Hold the vision and trust the process!! You will break thru this stall!!!

If you have the band, it takes time to find the correct fill. I didn't start to lose weight until my third fill, four months after the surgery took place. Many doctors are very conservative about doing fills in the first month or two, the body needs time to heal and the stomach does have sutures holding the band in position.

Don't feel alone! It is a slow, but steady process to get started.

Some pointers that helped me through stall times:

1. Increase your Water intake

2. Make sure there are 4-plus hours between eating meals -- 4 hours of only liquids, no "grazing"

3. Increase Protein, lower veggies and carbs. Eat foods you have to "chew" -- and chew well.

4. Get some type of exercise everyday. Walking is great. Resistance bands or weights are great.

5. Avoid "processed" or packaged foods until you are back on track.

I really believe the 4-hour timing between meals (even if you are "starving,") is a key point, and I still do this regularly today. At first it seems like you are clocking everything... Water, food, etc ... But you do get used to it. And you will cut through the stall.

When my weight stalled, my NP suggested one day of higher calorie/good fats (avocado, olive oil) - no processed or forbidden foods. Then back to a regular WLS diet. It seemed to work - my weight dropped a couple of days later after a 4 week stall. I had RNY and while agree with Ladybandito on nearly every point, I have been advised not to go longer than 3 hours between meals/snacks (I'm on a 6 times a day routine - 3 small meals and 2-3 healthy snacks). Maybe a difference between lap band and gastric bypass? I also hear a lot of talk on this website about the 5:2 diet (5 days of normal eating followed by 2 days of "fasting") but I haven't needed to get that extreme yet.

Thanks for all the responses. I had the sleeve done in early June. I am happy to know there are others out there with the same fears. I haven't really written down all my intake this far but I started to today to keep an eye on it. Maybe this will give me insight on where I am falling short!

Try using myfitnesspal to track what your eating and how often so that way it will give you an idea of where you are falling short.

Aggie - don't be too quick to blame yourself - you may not be falling short! Stalls are a normal part of the weight loss process - our bodies go into "starvation mode" due to the lack of calories and actually eating a little more can be the cure! MyFitness Pal is a great way to track what you're eating - I've been using it every day for about a year now (my NUT needed me to keep records for 6 months before my surgery). But it may not be your fault. Don't get discouraged - this will end soon - honestly! I had a 4 week stall a few weeks ago so I know how discouraging it can be. Eventually I just suddenly dropped 5 lbs. Another tip - don't weigh yourself every day - only once a week.

I am in the same boat. I was sleeved May 13. I have lost 25lbs with the preop and post bit have been stuck for about 3 weeks. Is this even normal so soon after surgery I am just 10 weeks out?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
