Did your nutritionist give you a time to not eat past? Just curious to see how everyone's rules compare. Has anyone found that eating before bed slows your weight loss or doesn't effect it at all?

My band nutritionist has not said anything about it but I have seen a nutritionist for years off and on for mineral insufficiencies. I have alway been told not to eat with less than 2-3 hours before bed. The reason I was given is that food is not able to flow as naturally toward digestion. I would imagine since the band is acting as a funnel, it probably isn't wise to eat close to bedtime with it either.

Good question, I just eat whenever. Early, late, as long as I'm getting Protein and fluids right?!

My NUT said nothing about what time to eat or not eat. I'm in the habit of not eating past 6 p.m. though...pre-surgery, if I ate later than that, I suffered horrible reflux when I went to bed, so I try to avoid that at all costs.

Ditto. No time constraints here. Sometimes I don't get home from work until 8-9pm. So I'm eating dinner at 9:30. In bed by 10:30. Even if I eat dinner at a "normal" time, I do have a bedtime snack. Usually cottage cheese and peaches, Greek yogurt, apples and PB, pretzel chips or nuts. Sometimes I 'm a really good girl and just have camomille tea. But at 6 1/2 months I'm 10 pounds under goal and still losing, so I gotta say it hasn't been detrimental for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
