Eating after first fill

Recommended Posts

Am wondering if it is normal that I am not able to get anything solid down after my first fill. Every time I try any solids they get stuck. Maybe I'm not eating slow enough? I can get Soup broth and my shakes down fine. But have not had any solids in a week. I was banded May 27th and have lost 29 lbs so far. I am leaving for Europe in Aug and don't want to have problems with the stuck food and throwing up from the saliva build up. I also don't want to go to Europe and just have broth ???? Suggestions?

My suggested test for these issues is, try a progresso Soup? Maybe a chicken vegetable Soup or beef stew type soup? If you can eat soup without getting stuck, you probably aren't chewing your food enough or you're eating too fast?

Of course you want to chew the chunks of beef/chicken in the soup to mush but this is similar to the consistency of food we're supposed to eat. So, if you can down soup, your band is not too tight. If you can't eat soup without having a stuck episode, you're probably too tight and need a small unfill?

Let us know how it works out?

Hi

Got my first fill yesterday( 4mm) I feel nothing at all, i can still eat everything, apart from the appitie a little less.

I have a 10mm band, does any one else have the same size band and how much fill did you need before you felt the restriction

Hope to hear from you ☺

Size of band or amount of fills have little to do with restriction or satiety. We all have different anatomies, different sized stomachs, stomach lining, esophagus and peristaltic functions. It took me 3 fills to begin to feel any kind of satiety and 6 total to reach the green zone. I have no idea how many CCs are in my band.

Most of us took more than one fill to feel any kind of satiety or restriction btw.

I got my first fill last week (3cc's) and I don't feel much resistance. My surgeon said I may not, either, and we'll adjust it the next month. As for food, I was told to do a liquid diet for the first day after each fill.

I also have the 10cc band. My husband has a 15, and he's comfortable filled with 6.5cc. I wouldn't be surprised if I go up to 5cc. I guess we'll see!

It takes a lot for me to feel restriction. Everyone is different. 6.25 CCs is my green zone.

Also, remember your green zone can change from time to time. We see folks all the time that rock on for a year or more and have to have small fills and even a few that need small unfills. Gage this on yourself only, no one else. As said we all have different things to consider. Try to stop looking for the elusive green zone, it will find you. Learn to eat right, slowly and chew well. Just cuz you can still eat it doesn't mean you should.

Also, unless you're pretty tight, you may actually be able to eat any food item. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I enjoy that I can still eat bread, rice, eggs and I can eat Breakfast where many can't. I like my band on the looser side, some others like theirs on the tighter side. Just sayin....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
