Band to sleeve, same op, August 12th !

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is my first post on here. I'm having the sleeve on the 12th of August. I'm (hopefully) going from band to sleeve (same op) had the band 10 years ago was 136kg, got down to 90kg, now back up to 110kg. Bands not working for me anymore. I'm 37 and 182cm. Anybody else gone band to sleeve in the same op ?

I really want to pull out and cancel the op, it's just pre-op nerves, I cancelled my band op twice as well ! Damn nerves !!! I'm just worried about a leak and bad reflux. That is all :-)

I had it all in one on 6/18. I was worries I would wake up with no sleeve due to the scar tissue but thank go I had very little (banded in 2008 ) and my dr was able to remove it all. I was nervous about a leak as well but I knew I had to have the surgery so I could get back to heathy. Good luck to you all on your upcoming surgeries.

I am having my band to sleeve on Aug 7th, all in one surgery is planned and I sure hope I wake up that way. I am so excited, this time next week I will be post opt.

I was thinking today about how it was after my band surgery (2007). Remember the few weeks after, had to be on liquids, and not fill in your band. OMG that was so hard, but I never cheated once. The head hunger about drove me crazy. I hear after this surgery you have no hunger, maybe some head. The hardest part is getting in your liquids. Is this what you have heard?

Wish you all the best of luck!!

Laura

I am now 6 weeks out from my surgery and haven't not had the hungry feeling yet and I'm still on liquids and soft food. I have had a hard time with the Protein and liquids but getting better as time goes by. I found using crystal light to flavor my Water I drink more. Good luck to you next week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
