Surgical schools and DRs in the Boston Area?

Recommended Posts

I am located in Southern New Hampshire about 40 minutes north of Boston. We have some really great medical schools and hospitals in the area. I am trying to find out if anybody knows if the teaching hospitals perform plastic surgeries and if they do, is it at a discounted rate? Who would I contact at the schools and/or hospitals to inquire?

Where did you have your weight loss surgery? I would recommend that you ask you bariatric clinic to recommend plastic surgeons who specialize in the type of surgery that post weight loss surgery patients require. In my case health insurance covered only the panniculectomy. The rest I had to pay for myself, upfront. There are good plastic surgeons who do this kind of work at Beth Israel Deaconess, Mass General, Brigham and Women's, all in Boston , and in New Hampshire , there is Dartmouth Hitchcock. All are teaching hospitals. Do not expect any discounts, however. You would have to go abroad for that, to Mexico or Thailand , perhaps. .

There was a woman on another site that said she did have her extended Tummy Tuck, neck lift and her arms done at a Yale Hospital in CT with a residency program at a discounted rate , but her surgery was 6 years ago she said, so not sure If that is still available. I paid about the same as she did recently by going to a fantastic clinic in Mexico, so there are options, you just need to do some checking...

This is a dated thread, but I found out yesterday about the Mass General Hospital resident program for plastics. They do offer discounted rates. From the VERY little I've seen, I've only read of good results. I'll be doing more research into the program and people's experiences. If anyone here has used them, please review. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
