Pre op tests confimed I have a blood clotting disorder...

Recommended Posts

I'm almost done with all of my pre op testings and so far so good, but the blood work has shown I am Vitamin D deficient and that I have some sort of blood clotting disorder (I cant remember the name) and I am being referred to a hematologist. Has anyone else had this diagnosis before surgery? Did they have to take extra precautions (transfusion on hand, etc..). I've only suffered issues with my platelet count during my pregnancies so to know this is clearly an issue I have all the time scares me a little.

2.5 weeks until I go in for revision surgery. I'm scared. I'm unable to eat almost anything at this point, my stomach hurts all the time and I'm just praying for time to go faster so the pain goes away.

My sister just had the sleeve a month ago and she had to be and still is on 50,000 units of Vitamin D.< /p>

She also was on blood thinners before and after surgery.

She had to be careful of course but her Hematologist cleared her for surgery and still is watching her closely.

She also has a Vascular doctor watching her that cleared her for surgery too.

So try not to upset yourself about this until you see the Hematologist.

Take care and good luck.

Thank you! My doctor told me that the "worst case" scenario really for me will just be 4 weeks of blood thinner injections and I should be good to go afterwards :) I'm just soooo ready for this to be over

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
