So, I am two weeks post-op and really struggling with heartburn and indigestion. I have never had this in my life before the sleeve.

My surgeon is recommending Losec - I am fearful I will need it forever and am reluctant to start it. The list of possible side effects sounds terrible.

Any insights here? Please?

I am two weeks post op as well and this past week the acid has been horrendous. Originally I was taking Pepcid AC chewable so but they did nothing for me and I was taking lots of tums on top of it. My surgeon has switched me to Previcid capsules and each day it is getting better and I'm taking fewer tums. Packaging says it can take 1-4 days to provide the full effect.

Thank you for replying. It seems to be getting worse for me as well. I am seeing my family doctor this week for something. I had my surgery in Mexico so my surgeon emails me and phones but I have to see a family doctor here. I hope this does not last.

Definitely get on a PPI. Acid reflux is very common immediately postop. It may or may not become a long term problem. Most surgeons send you home with a PPI to help decrease stomach acid and promote healing. I had my surgery in Mexico too, and my surgeon REQUIRED a minimum of 2 months of Omeprazole 40mg. Even with that I still needed Rolaids or Maaloxx occasionally. After 2 months I weaned down to the 20mg OTC dose for a couple weeks and then stopped completely. Fortunately I have had no GERD symptoms.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
