M having surgery tomorrow and trying to figure out how I will ever get Protein Shakes in. If our stomachs hold 4oz and shakes are 11oz, how long does eat take to drink a whole shake (not just talking right after surgery when it's a struggle anyway)?

I don't think you're expected to be able to hold that much for a while after surgery. I was eating only an ounce or so per meal for weeks and weeks. It was over a month before I was able to eat more than 4 or 5 ounces a day. I never worried about getting in the calories, only getting enough Water. I had enough calories stored in my fat to feed a small nation for a while. :-)

Fret not. You may not feel like eating much at all for a bit. It will get better. I once heard someone say that post surgery eating becomes like a full time job. You will put lots of time, thought, and activity into doing it. Like any job, you get better and better at it with experience. The learning curve may be steep and rocky but if you stay with it, and get support from this site, you will become very skillful and successful at it. Good luck.

sip, sip and sip some more...And don't forget to put some Water into the equation. Also some coconut Water or G2 Gatorade to help with electrolytes.

We all go through it and we all wonder and we all do it..So it is possible maybe more so then figuring out then Algebra! :)

I was sleeved 6/17 and was lucky to not have an issue swallowing anything. pills or regular drinks of water/shakes. However I could not stand the thought of the Protein shakes. I had no issue pre diet and I had 90 grams a day.

I decided on premier Protein Shakes. Small and 30gm in one shake. I drink it first thing in the morning and it takes 5 to 10 minutes. Fluid does go through you quickly. I will have another one if I'm not tolerating the soft food I have chosen.

I know I get 60 grams a day at least.

I have learned my full on soft foods is hiccups and I learned the hard way not to drink too soon after the "meal". Took one drink and that was lesson learned.

Don't beat yourself up on the Protein but do get in as much Water to keep hydrated. I can tell each day if it's not enough and I step it up because I don't want to have to go get iv fluids.

Keep up all of the good work and keep on !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
