finediva 979 Posted July 12, 2014 Oh no - diagnosed with shingles today and I'm suppose to have WLS in Thursday! What did your surgeon say about that? At my pre testing on Monday I was told if I get a cold and have a fever or upper respiratory infection I will not be allowed to have the surgery. Makes sense, but I was shocked when I was told. I want to stay in my room until Friday morning. My sixteen year old has been to three amusement parks since I received my surgery day. Love jim but wish could send himaway for the summer. Teenage friends always in the house. Do love him!!!
Jersrose43 837 Posted July 12, 2014 That's terrible. Call your surgeon first thing Monday and let him know I hope they gave you the anti viral so you can get it gone quickly

Miss Mac 6,262 Posted July 13, 2014 That rash will turn into the grown-up equivalent of chicken pox and will be contageous until the blisters break. I had shingles a couple of summers ago. The nerve pain was significant. Get some cotton balls and a 50 gallon drum of calamine lotion. (Well, have plenty on hand) Don't let anyone touch your blisters. Follow general care as for chicken-pox. You may indeed have to delay your sugery for three or four weeks. Make sure you have good pain relief on hand, and tell the family not to touch the blistered area. I hope you get over this quickly as it is a lot to bear. On the up-side I suppose, is that your surgery will feel like a day in the park after this. Sorry, but there is no happy way to prepare someone for shingles. I wish you the best of recovery. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted July 13, 2014 The severity of symptoms from shingles varies dramatically -- depending on fast you got to a doctor and got the antiviral medicine into your bod, and where the breakout is.
