Help! 2 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

This is my second day after surgery and still having periodic gas pains/heartburn and it is very painful to bend over and touch the ground. It takes me about 30 -45 min to drink a 11 oz protien shake. Is this normal?

I didn't really have much pain post op. Did your doctor prescribe pain meds?

Walking seemed to help as much as anything. I certainly wasn't trying to bend over and touch the ground though. You may want to just take it as easy as possible..allowing your body to heal from surgery.

As far as drinking, I was on a clear liquid diet for a week post op, and could sip pretty easily within a day.

Take it easy! It'll be much better soon. Best wishes.

Unfortunately for many of us yes this is normal. Just keep walking and sip sip sip. Congratulations on being banded.

Why are you trying to bend over and touch the ground????? Stop it :)

I was banded last Tuesday so I am 4 days out. I have not switched back to my regular shakes yet because I thought they were a little to thick and scared me. I've been drinking Isopure carb free drinks and spread it throughout the day. Isopure also has a thinner shake and I split the serving into two and just do 6.oz at a time. I've been getting meeting my Protein goals each day with ease!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
