Tracis weight loss journey 6 Posted July 12, 2014 How long after surgery did you come off your diabetic medicine? If you are still on it how long post op are you? I am hoping to be sleeved on August 5th just waiting to be approved.
Reddrobin 24 Posted July 12, 2014 I was off all diabetic meds a week before surgery due to liquid diet. After surgery they would check my sugar frequently and I was always had good numbers.
chris1142 148 Posted July 12, 2014 I'm about 5 1/2 months out and have been off insulin and all meds since 2 weeks prior to surgery. Had an a1c done 2 weeks ago and it was 6.0. And my glucose levels are still declining slowly. My PCP says for all intents and purposes I'm not diabetic any more. But warns that it will come back if I start eating crazy again. Forsythia 882 Posted July 12, 2014 Stopped all my pills at my one week post op visit. My sugars are between 90 and 115 consistently.
BabySheldon 158 Posted July 12, 2014 I also stopped all on diabetic pills before surgery....and when I had my A1 C checked before surgery it was 10.9 it is now 4.8 and has been in those same ranges since surgery so I am diabetes free....wooooo hooo!!!! Wishing you a life free of diabetes as well..... Shelby

gardengirlkl 2 Posted July 14, 2014 Came home off of 3 meds - Levemir, Metformin and Victoza. Now, I am using a sliding scale for short acting insulin....so far the most I've taken in one day will be today and about 17 units...this is much better than pre-sleeve. I am 17 days post op. I am happy with my progress regarding meds as my main goal for surgery was to get the diabetes in remission. I think I will as I get more weight off.
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted July 14, 2014 We were told once you are diabetic you will always be a diabetic. That diagnosis is what made me go for the sleeve. My husband is a 30 year Diabetic Type 2. We both came off Metformin at surgery. He is on a small dose of insulin a day. Thank God in 8 months no more calling rescue to revive him in the middle of the night. No more eating huge amounts of fruit to keep his blood sugar up during the night. Please stay off the carbs and sugar, because in 8 months he has lost 100 lbs and is fabulous! I wish everyone good luck and success with weight loss, to become healthier and combat the effects of diabetes on our bodies. 2 BabySheldon and ren0318 reacted to this
Calimomof3 20 Posted July 15, 2014 My surgeon has me staying on the pills until 6 weeks post op because he says it will help in the stomach healing process. I had bloodwork done at 4 weeks post op and levels were within normal range
