I found the 'protein shots' at Walmart. 42 grams of Protein in a 3.8 ounce tube. Slam it down quick, versus mixing a Protein powder shake. Made getting my Protein in, much easier. Also, Muscle Milk tastes way better to me than my whey protein powders. Not sure why, but I would rather have them anyday versus mixing my own.

I didn't realize there were protein shots...gotta look for these..certain brands? Thx for this tid bit!

The Protein shots are not at all the same quality as isolate Protein. Its certainly good if you can't get the other Proteins in but whey and isolate Proteins are best as they have the essential amino acids. So while this may be ok to help get numbers up, you might want to consider high quality protein for most of your intake.

Found this on another post - collagen based protein is not a great choice for bariatric patients because it just simply doesn't have the essential amino acids that we need to survive. In other words, its just junk, pretty much like potato chips and soda. There's just not enough nutritional value in it to meet the high demands for protein that our surgery requires to keep us healthy.

Don't forget to check what kind of protein it is--- 100% protein isolate is best. Some types aren't absorbable.

i'm in the same boat. i was sleeved on 6/23. i have been eating some little spoonfuls of winter squash which is awesome, but pretty starchy.

i saw my nut last week i am on a puree/softs hybrid sort of phase. i can't do puree, and many of the soft foods are doing great for me (cottage cheese, ground meat). she basically said that during this phase just concentrate on getting 'something' that will stay down. honestly i haven't had ANY probs with nausea or vomiting and feel really good since my surgery. i have chewed a couple of crackers as well, pulverizing them to mush. i am trying very hard to concentrate on Proteins but i'm sick of most of them also, especially eggs and refried Beans.

i will go to ALL softs on wednesday of this week so i'm looking forward!

I was sleeved jan 7, 2006 and I've been through all the phases.. For me, I got a chicken Soup base that is made by mc cormick. It's a White container with a red lid. It's moist 1 spoon to 1 cup and added slices of avocado and used scissors to cut very thin pieces of green onion. Also I drank avant edge chocolate shakes over ice. They were good. When I could eat more substantially my favorite foods were Jerky, Protein and rather easy to digest and stringsters string cheese. Cottage cheese with pineapple juice adds a change or soft mandarin oranges from a can. one thing that is hard to realize is that these all will pass and your life will go back to normal. Watch protein and Biotin for a year. I did not and my hair fell out in clumps because of the lack of Vitamins etc they tell you to take. It was new back then and there wasn't as much information. I also started to eat whatever I wanted even drinking and eating at the same time but I paid for it for years with 30 min of a stomach ache. It took me forever to realize take a little wait 10 min and then take more because by the time u realize your stomach is hurting it's too late. The first 3 months is hard, just try to be creative with your foods most anything white will fill you up fast. oatmeal is nice when you are ready, juice from meat with grits??? Take one day at a time and revel in the fact that you will soon be feeling so proud to be in public and pick whatever clothes you want and whichever store you choose and don't forget to get some exercise. It sux but it's important to keep your muscle mass and that requires exercise and protein, eggs whatever it takes. As far as shakes though again Adant Edge silver container. They are good... Good luck you will be fine!!

I am 4 days out of surgery and I've found that Muscle Milk, Vanilla Creme taste just like a vanilla shake. It's the best I've had. Honestly, I'm still not hungry so these shakes help me out. If you haven't tried thus flavor, please do. Try the ready made ones and nit the powder.

Have you tried the Muscle Milk Pro Series? it has 40g of Protein, so more than just the regular ones and they have it in vanilla, chocolate and mint chocolate!! The mint one is my fave and I don't think I could stomach the powder shakes so these ready to drink ones are fabulous!!

I have not but I will try it. I first bought the powder thinking I could add fruit and what not to make it taste better, but that didn't happen. So now all I do is drink the ready made shakes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
