Need to get back on track

Recommended Posts

I was banded in June 2011. I lost weight right away and was on a good track. Then I lost my Dad, fell in to a depression and ate everything under the sun. I went to my surgeon to have a slight deflate. I think with stress, I was experiencing swelling and my band was really tight. Well, that was about a year ago. Now I am 20 pounds up and scared. I have had absolutely NO problems with my band. But I am in the wrong zone... I can eat anything and not even feel it. I look like I can eat everything also. I am making an appointment to start out fresh. I am not up to my original "before" weight, so that is one good thing. But I am embarrassed to go back. I need to, and I need support, but I don't do well with group meetings. I really don't. I guess I just need support and can find it here. Anyone else been in the same situation? Did it work out or was it too late? I am afraid that I lost my window of opportunity. Help...

You are never too late to start over and it sounds like you are still early. Get to your surgeon ASAP and get this under control. You got this.

Please feel free to keep in contact even private message me if you want I kind of have the same story. Maybe we can encourage each other. My surgery was May 2011 289lbs and I was down to 195lbs. A band slip Aug 2013 up 35-40lbs in a few weeks. Now at 229lbs and still struggling.

I wouldn't be embarrassed to go back to my surgeon... they've seen this hundreds of times before and they are there to help you get back on track. If the band isn't filled to the green zone, you will gain weight. I suspect your doctor knew it would be a problem when he removed a bit of Fluid.

The important thing is take control, and to go back and get back into the routine of living with a band.

Good luck!

Hi there, the window of opportunity is wide open and you're going to soar right through it! I'm very sorry about the death of your father. So many if us used food as a coping strategy and the funny thing is it doesn't even really work. I benefitted from seeing a therapist and we broke down all the triggers, the ways I used food to quell anxiety, etc. It was tedious but I'm glad I kept at it as now I am not fooling myself about any of those old habits. It feels so good to have a healthy relationship with food now. You are getting yourself on track -- here you are. See that surgeon and don't stop until you are where you need to be. Best wishes -- put yourself first.

Right there with you on needing to restart. Going back in for a refill soon. I have gained about 30 ponds since December when I had to get an unfill for another surgery. Got to get back on track and it doesn't seem so hopeless knowing that others are in the same boat.

OK! Appointment made. Surgeon going to do a fluoroscopy to check placement and setting of band. Haven't had any problems, but it has been a while since my last visit. Looking forward to it and starting my journey again!

Thanks again for all of your support!

I was rebanded after a slip in February. I've gained 25 lbs!!! Very discouraging. I went yesterday for another fill. Up to 9 CC now. We can do this! We've been through too much to give up.

I was unfilled from being too tight and also needing a hernia repair. I'm about 10 days out from the hernia repair, and will start getting refilled soon. Just have to get my head right, and make it a way of life, not a diet. You can do it! I'm glad you're going to the surgery, and just to reiterate, it's never too late to restart, that's what is so great about lapband!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
