I'm almost three weeks after surgery and have started gaining some weight. I know that I look thinner but the number on the scale not changing or going up is freaking me out. Eating tiny portions and not drinking. What am I doing wrong????

are you eating a lot of salt? might be Water, those fat cells love to hold onto Water to save space for the fat to return, it wont however! one day youll go to the bathroom 15 times and drop 4 lbs. this happens to me quite often. Its called whooshing. its what causes the stalls in weight loss.

When you say "eating tiny portions and not drinking" do you mean that you are not drinking alcohol or you are not drinking liquids like Water?

Stay off the scale every day it's is very detrimental to your mind.

You get very frustrated doing that.

If you have to weigh at home do it once a week always at the same time of day wearing the same thing each time.

Trust me you will be happier with your progress this way.

Now if your not drinking all your Water you will be come dehydrated and that would mean a trip to the ER to get IV fluids in you. You just can't function without it and you won't heal properly either.

Let us know more about what's going on with you.

Good luck in your success.

Are you getting in your minimum of 64oz of fluids each day?

Are you getting your recommended amount or Protein each day?

Are you getting some form of exercise in regularly?

From everything I was told, as well as what I've experienced personally, those are the keys. The days I don't get in enough Fluid, or enough Protein, or skip working out, I can see it reflected on the scale for sure.

Fallonl- are you tracking all your intake. I find MyFitnessPal a great app as it tells me how many Protein Grams I am getting in. If I stick to at least 50 - 70 gms and get all my Water in I am losing on those days. I track my Water on there as well. I suggest tracking and watching sodium intake, increase Protein intake and increase water intake.

Sounds like you might have hit the dreaded 3rd week stall. Just keep getting in your Proteins and your fluids. It will pass. I agree that its best not to get on the scale every day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
