12 days post-op and able to have 8 ounces of liquid without a problem. Is something wrong?

Recommended Posts

I'm still on phase 2 of the post-op diet (full liquids like Soups and Protein shakes) and I can have 8-9 ounces of "creamy" Soup (ie Tomato, low fat mushroom) without a problem. Should I be concerned? I heard I'm only supposed to be able to tolerate 4-6 ounces... Or is that only "solid" food? So confusing, please help!

That's for solid food. Some people have trouble with liquids at the outset but that's mostly because their stomachs are swollen and traumatized after surgery. Sounds like your surgeon did careful, meticulous work and/or you are naturally a swift healer. If you do feel like something might be wrong (pain etc.), contact your surgeon.

I'm 11 days out. I was concerned about the same thing. My biggest fear is stretching out my stomach! My doc said it's very hard, nearly impossible to stretch your stomach out with just liquids. It's the food you have to worry about. I am just weak and tired. This morning, I was a little shaky. Im worried because I'm already tired of the Protein shakes.

Good luck to you!

My surgery was on June 30th and I can drink 8oz of Water or Protein Shake too now now problem. Yesterday I had 5oz of greek yogurt at one sitting (over about 30 mins). I will admit, I was thinking the same thing as you :).

Oh, goodness - sweetie, why are you even TRYING that???

You just cut up your tummy - you are healing and you could literally not be feeling the damage you are doing to your stomach. Don't experiment. Follow your recommendations and portions. period.

I think you are fine, however. Best of luck!

Liquids are fine in that amount. Make sure you're eating slowly, though.

After seeing this comment, I actually called my surgeon's office to ask about this, and I was told that if I'm able to get 8 ounces of Soup or Isopure in at a time, it's okay (actually better, since then I don't have to sip all day long to get my Protein in). I will definitely follow the portion sizes for foods when I begin taking in solids.

Glad you called... That comment made me raise my eyebrows. ;)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
