ho11ieberry06 39 Posted July 11, 2014 I had surgery on June 16th so I am now starting on soft foods. I am still drinking my Protein shakes and eating Soups and other liquid sources, but when I try to eat I always get a really bad pain in my chest. Is that normal and how long is that going to last? OkieAsh 9 Posted July 11, 2014 Bites no bigger than a pencil eraser and chew, chew, chew. I know it is soft food, but if those don't work, you need to call your Dr. ASAP. Best of luck! 2 BeagleLover and moose18201 reacted to this
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted July 11, 2014 I suspect you are eating either too much, too fast or it isn't chewed well enough. Eat tiny, eat slow and see if that doesn't help 3 Sleeving it behind, boccob81 and BeagleLover reacted to this
ad1203 85 Posted July 11, 2014 I know when I eat too fast, I get that pain in the chest also. Like they said, just try to slow down and take tiny bites. If that doesn't help, you should contact your doctor. Good luck! 2 RNBSN786 and BeagleLover reacted to this

Pookeyism 1,143 Posted July 11, 2014 Also - try an antacid!
mi75 1,235 Posted July 12, 2014 if you aren't on a gut pill- protonix, pepcid, prevacid, etc., then you may want to check with your surgeon. also, i would agree it could just be you are eating too much. i had the same thing happen when i added flaked white fish in earlier this week. i think i was just SO eager to get onto some 'food' after liquids that i overate. so far only flaked fish causing that, all other foods A-ok! going to wait another week or so and try the fish again. Sparklingbeauty53 202 Posted July 12, 2014 Good advice but if you find you are chewing loads and taking small pieces and you still have chest pain call your doctor's office. They know best!
Sleeving it behind 10 Posted July 15, 2014 As soon as I get that twinge of pain in my chest it is usually my que to stop eating.
