I went for my check up, it's been a week and a half. I lost 20 lbs, with Preop diet included. I started on mushies, but I feel like a failure. Apparently I don't cook my eggs wet enough because I got that feeling that everyone gets when they have dry food in their throat. I took a few sips and it was fine. Last week same thing happened, but with mashed potatoes. I feel like a failure. I'm scared I caused my band to slip because of these 2 instances. I try so hard to eat slow, I'm hardly eating anything. Like at most a half cup fills me up. But I still feel like I can't do anything right! How does someone get stuck on mashed potatoes nd eggs? I haven't cheated and eaten a cheeseburger or anything, but I'm failing on mushy foods. What if my band slipped now? My doctors office won't do fluoroscopy to check, they say I'll know if I vomit after my first fill. :( I don't know, I know 20 lbs is something to be proud of, but seriously, I'm so afraid of getting stuck or whatever that was that happened with the potatoes and eggs that I don't want to eat. I feel anxiety every time I eat, it's frustrating.

Any advice would be wonderful. Tia

Wow girl, you sound so wound up. You are going to have to find some way to relax. I can not imagine your band slipped over that. Most of us worry for one reason or another thinking we will be the ONE that everything goes wrong.

Maybe you are still swollen and need to stick with more liquid foods in small amounts.

Take a breath, I bet everything is going to be fine.

I hope you feel better,

Colleen

First potato are starch, Protein then veg then carb. 1/2 cup is the rite amount. you should not be hungry after that. use trick small plates, and chew chew chew . look up the you-tube video dr Obrien 8 golden rules , it explains the best way to do the lap-band

You're on foods way earlier than I was. I had six weeks of full liquids before allowed any chewing. At one and a half weeks post band you may still be swollen. Just try to follow your team's advice. Good luck.

I've been banded 2.5 years, and guess what I STILL get stuck on ?? Potatoes and eggs ! They dont like me at all in the AM, and I can just barely manage them for 3 bites in the PM ( but I love potatoes !) . So why are you so upset just after your surgery ? You are being waaaaay too hard on yourself ! (A failure ? Really ?) With time you will find out what foods wiil and wont work with you on different levels, am, pm that time of the month , etc. ! Aaaaaaand occasionly, one you'll never have again (me+raw broccoli = horrible stuck, then up it came !) So, you're NOT a failure, just maybe not ready for certain food that expand quickly, like eggs, potatoes , anything wheat, etc. Good luck !

You really need to relax! It takes a lot more than a few bites of food lodged in your throat to have a band slip. It would take months or years of this happening for your band to slip. Failure? Not hardly. The band isn't a fragile piece of plastic It can take a lot and what you're experiencing is just par for the course.

eggs happen to be the one food that almost everyone struggles with and if you're still swollen(most of us were at this point) eggs will continue to be a problem until the swelling goes down and you learn how to eat smaller and chew bigger.

So, chill out, you're journey is going just as it should and just try to learn from your mistakes and listen to your band.

Calm down..... Take a breath.....

First I have to say, a week and a half and already eating eggs and potatoes? Wow! I'm 4 wks post-up and I JUST started with potatoes, about a week ago I made scrambled eggs. A week and a half seems too soon, but it seems depending on the surgeon, they all do things different.

What I was told is to CHEW, and CHEW, and CHEW. Until it's baby food consistency. Literally to mush. Take small bites, too. But, all I can suggest is maybe to add low fat milk to both, to make them more liquified. I haven't (yet) had any issues with any foods, but maybe that's because I chew to pulvarization LOL.

Best of luck, and take it easy! It'll all work out! :D

Don't get stuck on eggs, but stay away from potatoes due to high carb. When I do eat potatos I get less that 1/3 cup. I envy all of those who get 1/2 cup food. I get 1/3 cup 5 times per day and that includes carbs and veggies for a total of 1/3 cup. Went over a little yesterday so today back to the program.

If you wanna give eggs another GO, try a splash of heavy cream, that makes them moist (AND DON'T OVER COOK THEM!!!). While cooking, constantly move the eggs around so that they cook like crumbs, as opposed to "omelet" style.

You would think that things like eggs & tuna fish would be easy foods to pass, but I have to be super careful when I eat those two.

Also, it's true what they said above... Sounds like its too soon for solids. Welcome to the BANDid side, where EVERYDAY is a learning experience ;)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
