JCP we have to do 3 weeks and I am 1 week in now (had to do this for months at the time before for other reasons) but it is really not that bad. The first 3 or 4 days are a bit of a mind struggle but after that it gets easy and the additional weight-loss is definitely a bonus and a good motivator !!

My surgery is scheduled for September 11th! Anyone going to Mexico?

I'm scheduled for 9/12 & I'm going to Tijuana. My surgeon is Dr. Valenzuela with Mexico Bariatric Center.

Hi! I'm Tiffany and my sleeve is scheduled for September 3 here in Atlanta. I guess I'm fortunate that my surgeon only requires Clear Liquids for the two days prior to the surgery. I can only imagine what several weeks of liquids would be like. At any rate, looking for a buddy to share this journey with.

Hi everyone. My surgery has been moved from 9/10 to 9/3. I am so excited. Oddly, i am not nervous at all. I finally told my mom-again but let her know that i did not want to hear her opinion about decision something i am doing for myself. I can tell she did not approve but she kept her opinion to herself. I am not going to tell anyone else.

Sovanna. ....congratulations! I am sorry your mom is not supporting your decision. I suspect that she may change her tune when she sees you several months post-op.

My mom is the one who approached me about the surgery. My brother had it done 2 years ago and went from 300 pds. to 185. She also knows about 20 other people who had it done and had about 4 talk to me personally. My insurance doesn't cover the surgery so I will be going to Tijuana Mexico to have it and my mom is paying a major portion of it or I wouldn't be able to do it. I consider it the nicest thing she has ever done for me. Her aunt sold her house to pay for the surgery for herself, her daughter, and son in law.

Good luck and keep us posted!

My sister is the only non supportive family member. Thankfully, she's kept it mostly to herself.

I finally got my date and it's September 15th. Can't wait to start this journey. I know it will be hard but, like the old commercial says.....I'm worth it! I'm in Illinois and having my surgery at Silver Cross. Is there anyone out there doing the same? Good luck to everyone.....

My case should have gone to my insurance company today. I am sooooo nervous. I know that we have been in touch with them on 3 different occasions and they have said it is included in the coverage for 90/10, but I have read about so many people that have been denied for stupid, little reasons like something just being worded wrong. I have a BMI of over 40, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, wicked arthritis in both knees, sleep apnea and I was just diagnosed with diabetes. I have a tentative surgery date of 9/23/14 and am going for my pre-op testing this Thursday. I just hope the surgery is approved and I can have the surgery when it's scheduled for and move on with my life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
