I got my surgery date! but.....

Recommended Posts

I just got a call that my surgery date is scheduled for the 28th of july . The bad news is that my endoscopy showed that I have a high level of H pylori bacteria so I have to be on antibiotics for a week first. I was reading around and it seems that a lot of the time h pylori is very difficult to get rid of because its become antibiotic resistant. Often it takes months to years to kill off. I have never taken antibiotics in my life so i hope i will not be antibiotic resistant. Has anyone else ever had this experience before? Did the antibiotics kill off the bacteria? I am sick of all the delays in my surgery process -__-

I called it helicopter bacteria because that's about what the technical term sounds like.

You will be fine, you will be given some super strong antibodies, maybe even triple antibody therepy, I think that is what it is called for a week. Just remember to not take any of it on an empty stomach and especially do not drink any alcohol while taking them.

4 years ago I did the triple antibodic thing and I tested negative last Monday.

H. Pylori can be resistant to treatment in people who have moderate to extreme usage of antibiotics over time, for one infection or another. You clearly don't fall into that category, so you shouldn't have any trouble. Good luck to you!

I was diagnosed with H Pylori as well and it was the hardest thing I had to go through during this journey by the way im pre-op. However, the first set of antibiotics did not work for me made me sick, nauseous, constantly throwing up, so I was put on pylera for two weeks 14 pilla a day only to get tested and I still have it. I tried another treatment of pylera and im hoping that when I test again im a few weeks that im negative because I cant go back to taking 18 pills a day including my metformin which is hard on the stomache as well...I wish you the best with your treatment I hope it goes smooth for you... Good Luck

Thanks, best of luck to you too & hang in there. I hear natural remedies like apple cider vinegar in your juice can help too

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
