Met with nutrtionist for class feeling scared about how to schedule liquid intake post op. How do you get 40 grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water if you can only take in 2 oz at a time. Feeling overwhelmed. Surgery scheduled everything preop completed and now having cold feet.

We have never measured a thing per our surgeon and are doing perfectly fine. I would not let this worry you. We drink all the time, so long as we are awake.

Normal. Take a breath, everything is going to be ok. You have done all of this work to get to this point, why would you think that you wouldn't be able to do the rest once the surgery is done? Will your committment level change? No! So stop doubting yourself. What you are feeling is normal, heck, look at all the posts on here about cold feet. Everyone gets them, just relax, your dedicated, committed and will get through this and be soooo much happier and healthy! good luck.

I was told that the first few weeks the Water is the most important to stay hydrated. Everything else comes in time.

I am feeling the exact same way, I have completed all of my preop stuff, spent lots of money, and even pre admitted to the hospital. Now, I am not sure I want to do this anymore.

Sunshine - you didn't go through all that just to back out now. You can do this! It's perfectly normal to be nervous, but you've got this!

. Im feeling a little better this morning i called someone from the support group i met and asked her about it. She told me that the first couple of weeks. Her doctor told her to sip Water all day. And take 2 oz of ensure 3 times a day. Thats it no counting anything. And she had no issues. She did tell me that one of the support group meetings before i went was about if anyone regretted the surgery and all of them said no even with complications. Kind of makes me feel better. Im sticking with the preop diet. I want so bad to be healthy for my kids. Im actually down 6 pounds already

Good for you.

My doc told me at te hospital at discharge not to worry about counting anything just get in my fluids and some Protein shakes. As much as possible and aim for 24 ounces of liquid a day. That was no problem really

It may take a few weeks post op to meet your Protein goals. My surgeon recommends 74g per day for women. I think it took me about 2 weeks before I was hitting that. For the first 2 weeks, hydration is key. Not getting enough Protein for a few days won't kill you, but dehydration can and can land you in the hospital if you're not careful. One thing that helped was switching from a milk based shake to a Water based one. I found Syntrax Nectar Iced Lemon Tea and would sip it literally all day. Doubles as Water too! For the first few weeks I was also setting an alarm to get some Fluid overnight as I'd wake really light headed from low BP due to dehydration. Some folks set an alarm on their phone to remind them to sip every 15 min while recovering at home. Whatever works for you!
