A. Stoot 85 Posted July 10, 2014 Before I went in for my EGD, like always they tell me if the Dr see it necessary he will do a biopsy during the EGD incase there is any issues before the surgery for the sleeve. Now I am bit concerned because this is my 3rd EGD (band 2005) (checkup 2012) and and when I woke up and got dressed the nurse told me that Dr Marvin had to do a biopsy and his office will call me for my followup appointment. Has anyone experienced this before, please tell me I am worried for nothing or he did he see something, erosion???
mi75 1,235 Posted July 10, 2014 i have a biopsy at EVERY EGD i've ever had- 2 a year for 10 years plus a few extras for random stuff. It has always been my impression that biopsy is looking for Barretts. if you have GERD or reflux, the lesions in your esophagus can turn to Barretts so they just want to stay on top of it. i have had multiple positive biopsies over the years for Barretts but was never lead to believe that it was ever worsening from the initial positive one. now post op, i'm hopeful my GERD will go away completely once my weight is gone and this will all be a memory! 1 A.
