Hi everyone, I'm so happy that I found this app! My surgery is on the 23rd and I start my pre-op diet today. I'm sooo nervous but excited that I'm finally doing this. I don't want to fail, so any advice to survive these two weeks will be greatly appreciated. (I'm going to take my Protein now... Hope I don't starve later) ????

Congrats on starting this journey for health!

The pre op diet can be rough, their are so many different ones. Keep in mind that most of us did it and it has rough spots but you can and will do it.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Colleen

No lie, the pre op diet blows! I had to do three weeks and I hated every. Minute. But every time I thought I'd go out of my mind and head to the drive through at In-N-Out I would tell myself that if I messed up, I might end up waking up after my surgery with no band. That wasn't going to happen.

Remember, the purpose of the pre op diet, torturous as it is, is to shrink your liver so that it is safe for your surgeon to get in there and successfully place your band. Just remind yourself of that, and that it's just temporary. It will all be over, soon. :)

Hang in there! You'll be done with the pre op and banded, before you know it. :D

I don't see why not... As long as you are doing sugarless. :D If in doubt, call your surgeon's office and ask but I'll bet it's okay. :) I'm not a gum chewer, myself but I am hooked on sugar free mints. I nommed on them during my pre op and had no problems.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
