first fill in a year

Recommended Posts

Mixed emotions to say the least. I feel like it's great because I've been at a stalemate, yet bad because for the longest time I was able to lose weight doing essentially nothing, bad because I can't eat and because I've been able to go so damn long without a fill :/ and good because this will help me to reach goal..I guess.

I think my problem is that I felt I had a handle on my own weight loss. Like I was doing this on my own because I didn't need a fill and now I feel desperate. I feel like I'm failing my band.

Oh my goodness, look at how much you lost! 138 pounds is a great accomplishment! I keep hearing the last 20 something pounds are the hardest, and the ones you really have to work for. You have not failed...you just reached your challenge. Take that challenge head on! You will get there...just don't give up :-)

I went a year between fills and was stalled at about 30 lbs from goal. The band seems to lose fluid(it doesn't) and your esophagus becomes stronger pushing food through the stoma. I was in the yellow zone for over a year and it was like I was dieting all over again. I wasn't getting the satiety I got back in 2012 so I was back in the diet cycle again and we al know how worthless that is?

So, I got a fill a few months ago. I'm definitely tighter now and losing weight again. No need to feel like you're failing. We really do need this tool or we wouldn't have gone through all the trouble and pain to have it installed. Go get a fill and thank me later :P

So long as your able to intake a healthy amount of Protein and calories, I would not worry. Are you able to intake at least 60 grams of Protein a day??? And, are you staying properly hydrated, and talking Calcium and Vitamin tablets?

If you are worried about not being able to eat, I would schedule a visit with your doc or NUT to make sure you are on a healthy diet regime.

Congrats on the fantastic loss so far! That is awesome!

First of all, you are doing amazing! Seconding other guys here, the last 20lbs or so is the hardest to lose. Sometimes you plateau, but you have to know that it's OK because it's just your body adjusting itself to the new weight. Nevertheless, you mentioned you can't eat... That's not good! Not good at all, and if that's the case, you need to contact your lap-band clinic and make an appointment ASAP. It is possible you are too tight, in which case you definitely need some Fluid taken out. Being even slightly too tight can put you at risk of stretching the pouch and even band slippage.

You are definitely NOT failing at anything and definitely NOT failing the band. You are doing great! Adjustments are a part of a lap-band follow up and it is recommended that you see your surgeon at least every three months in the first year after the surgery, and at least once annually thereafter. Visiting your physician does not always mean you will get an adjustment, sometimes it's good to visit just to check on the band under X-Ray. Every bandster should remember that visiting the clinic should not only be restricted to emergencies and getting adjustments! Book an appointment with your physician at least once a year - even if you feel great.

As mentioned by 2muchfun, when you lose weight it is normal to feel less restriction, so no worries there.

Hope this helps. Wish you all the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
