I so I have been at this approval process since April. Regular gp visit. Seminar, bloodwork, EKG,endoscopy, psych exam and at least 5 trips @ 120 miles to clinic with time off work. Today I hear that the hospital is not considered center of excellence so I have to start again with new facility. I am heart broken. Anyone else have to start over and do your clearances carry to new doctors? I am not giving up but I am so down.

I had that. I did the 6 months nutritional counseling that my insurance wanted, and then Obama care came along and my insurance changed. The Dr I was working with wouldn't take it anymore.

It took another 6 months of making lots of calls and attending many new patients classes until I finally found a doctor and hospital which took my insurance. It's an hour drive away but...

However my psych evaluation and 6 months of nutrition carried over. I got it from my first doctor and they were able to use it. Once I found the Dr. They were able to give in my paperwork and a week later insurance approved me and the surgery was scheduled for 3 weeks later

Thanks, I am having to reset my mind. I was sure the next call would be scheduling. I found a place it's farther away still but maybe I can transfer in my records and shorten things up a bit. I also had an earlier setback learning my insurance only covers 60% with no out of pocket cap.

I am so sorry you went all through the process only to find that out when you are ready to schedule surgery. My insurance has the same requirement for the Center of Excellence, but it had to a Cigna designated COE. I had appointments scheduled with a provider just over an hour away and was 2 days before my first appointment before I found out the hospital didn't meet the requirements. The closest COE is 3 hours each way. While not convenient, I will drive for this. Good luck finding a doctor you like and a place that meets your insurance requirements.

Thank you for sharing, I knew it would be a hard journey but I did not expect it to be so for these reasons! I am feeling a bit better, it's just a change of venue, right? :). Will try to get it sorted today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
