self medicated injections?

Recommended Posts

Lovenox is given to a great majority of patients after any kind of major surgery. A lot of people don't realize they've been given the injections after surgery because it's frequently done in the recovery room when you're not fully awake from anesthesia. Anyway, the needles are extremely tiny - the same size as insulin needles. If you do have to do injections for a few days or a week, that's much easier than remaining overweight, developing diabetes, and possibly doing insulin injections for the rest of your life. =)

I haven't had surgery yet.. but im still educating myself about the whole life changing experience. I watched a youtube video where this one woman said you have to inject yourself 2xs a day for the first 7days after surgery. Is this true? I am not good with needles at all and just want to know if anyone else has to do this

No home injections for me. ..just had the 2 I was in hospital. .

I just got sleeved on 7/5 and have to give one to myself everyday for 6 days total. I'm diabetic type 1 and have never taken blood thinners before. I take shots all the time but honestly, this $#%^ hurts! The needle isn't small like the ones I've used for my insulin shots, and it stings after. I couldn't handle it on my stomach b/c of all the bandaging and stuff so have been giving it in my leg and liek someone posted above to go slow...DEF GO SLOW! I have a bruise on my right thigh....and my left one hurts as well when I try to turn over a bit

Btw mine is called Fragmin (prolly just a different in Mexico I'm assuming like for some of the other meds)

SIGH

few more days to go for me! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
