lsereno 2,525 Posted July 9, 2014 got my first post op stomach virus this week, along with fever and the worst runs I've had in my life, but thankfully no vomiting. After two days of misery, fever has broken today and I'm hoping things "solidify" soon. I have to say it feels different post op. Still don't want to eat, but I am getting fluids and had some Soup yesterday and today. Lynda

MichiganChic 3,262 Posted July 9, 2014 Sorry to hear you are under the weather, and wishing you a speedy recovery. I've wondered what that might be like. I've not been sick since my surgery, and hoping it never happens! I worry most about vomiting. At least you missed that
Georgia 2,908 Posted July 9, 2014 Oh,no! Girl, I've been right there! It is weirder to me. But mine was vomiting too and the acid like to have killed me! I hope you are feeling better now and up and at 'me soon!
LivingFree! 478 Posted July 9, 2014 Sounds oh so miserable--sure hope you're doing better now. But really want to say congrats for keeping yourself so healthy since your surgery that this is your FIRST bout with illness. THAT deserves a WELL DONE!!! Just when we think we've experienced all there is to experience around WLS, here comes something else new, right? I never really thought about it--but getting sick like that with how important Water & Protein are to us, can get pretty serious pretty fast. Are you ok with enough fluids in your system now do you think? Makes me think now what my first time with a stomach flu post-surgery will be like. I'm thinking maybe I'll just dodge it for the rest of my life. . . Feel better soon. Take care.
lsereno 2,525 Posted July 9, 2014 I am feeling better! Yes, I'm very careful of the fluids. Totally slacked on Protein because there was no way I could choke down that much and didn't want Protein drinks. Figured lack of Protein won't kill me for a few days. I started drinking pedilyte today and it's thicker and doesn't go down as easy as Water. Fooled me because it looks and tastes like liquid Jello. But that slightly thicker viscosity makes a difference. Can't drink it like Water, I have to take little sips. Hoping to be solid by tomorrow. I'm on oatmeal, chicken noodle Soup, saltine crackers, Fage Greek Yogurt, Ginger Ale, and Pedilyte. Haven't tried the yogurt yet but planning on it tomorrow. I am a frequent hand washer. No idea how I got sick. I'm the only one in a large group of family and friends who got it. And I'm way below goal now but I expect most of that is water loss. JeffA70 200 Posted July 15, 2014 I had my first stomach bug post-op a few weeks ago and was so scared. My old self had diarrhea constantly and my new self is almost always constipated, so it was shocking to have both ends going on. The amount I vomited was amazing... My stomach can't possibly hold this much!!! I did call my surgeon to see if there was anything I needed to be aware of in regards to my stomach and the vomiting. He said basically let it move its way through. I did, and all was well after a day.
