tiredtwinmommy 30 Posted July 9, 2014 Started solids yesterday and it hurts for about an hour every time I eat. It feels like it is. In my chest and throat. I get spasms and only way to relieve myself a bit it to stand up. I am on a ppi and have been for a while. This sucks, I am afraid to eat a teach meal time because of this. I try eating slow and chewing my small bites very well. Is this normal? Will it get better? Supposed to see surgeon on Thursday but maybe I need to move that up? I find it helps if I walk around the house I still get that chest throat thing and I'm almost 8 weeks out. Eat soft foods SLOWLY each "meal" should take about 30 minutes to finish. It will get easier so be patient.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted July 9, 2014 What you're going through was normal for me. For weeks and weeks post-op, I could only eat about 1/2 tablespoon of solid food and then Frankensleeve would feel like he was trying to grind up rocks. I was eating Cream of Mushroom Soup for almost every meal once I passed the puree stage. I think it took about a month later before I was able to tolerate different solid foods - chicken being the hardest to eat. Funny think is, I was able to eat processed food (the bad stuff) more easily than the healthy foods I was supposed to be incorporating into my diet. 1 BitterSweet* reacted to this
playlikeworldchamps 595 Posted July 9, 2014 Completely normal. Sad to say. But it will get better gradually. Also there is nothing stopping you from staying on mushy/puréed longer. My surgeon/nut said not to worry if cannot progress right away. Take your time. 1 Ima Fox reacted to this
