JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Recommended Posts

Hey folks. I was looking to set up a thread for July 2014 sleevers. I believe the other threads were originally back in 2013.

I just had my surgery on July 2. I'm SO glad I did this. My breaking point was being diagnosed with high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and a host of other problems. I put on another 30 pounds from October to February of this year. I was a good 185 and quit smoking. I ballooned up to 305. I'm self pay and I got to 278 during my pre-surgery.

Since the surgery, I don't think I've been hungry, but I'm still dealing with the healing process. My first postop is Thursday. My only complaint is the low energy level. I knew it was coming, but wow.

I'd like to hear from those who started their life change this month. I am also hoping this can be a thread we can keep tabs on each other, as well as provide motivation when we need it

Hi! I was sleeved on July 1 in puerto vallarta mexico as a self pay. At the time of surgery, my BMI was. 34.86. I'm short (5.0) and carry my weight in the mid section. I am happy to report that I had zero complications from surgery. I woke up, walked around, and felt pretty good. I spent additional days in PV and was able to do a lot of walking with my family with no problems at all. I started full liquids today and had cream of broccoli Soup which was yummy. I also started my Premier Protein shakes.

Howdy, I had the sleeve on July 2nd, 2014. I'm glad you started this. Yesterday, I thought I was up to a walk and went to the mall. Not a good choice. I felt dizzy and didn't enjoy at all. I feel tight and bloated. I know our recoveries will all be different. However, I have lost ten pounds or 20, if I count the post surgery pounds. Tomorrow will be the one week mark. I'm thrilled to have that behind me. I'm doing what my doctor told me to do religiously. If he told me to pick my nose ten times a day, I'm sure I'd be doing that to. Getting down all the Protein and Water is a challenge, but it helped with the feeling of a bit of nausea I felt this morning. Glad that is over. Funny thing, my sister-in-law and good friend were with me during the day of surgery. They told me later how the doctor came out and spoke to them after the surgery. They are not in our world. He complimented how great my liver looked and said it was one of the best he'd seen. I explained later that he was telling them that I was a good girl in the pre-op stage. :-)

I'm so excited to see this thread up! I too had my surgery on July 2. My pre-surgery weight was 260. I am so happy to report that to date ( and I weigh myself daily), I am down 12lbs! :D I couldn't be more thrilled. I have my first post-op dr visit tomorrow. I've been feeling relatively fine other than being pretty sore and my stomach is still swollen. I am also finally starting to gain some energy. I was so weak all week long. Today is the first day that I felt like I could actually do some light housework. But, of course I over did it and now my stomach is really sore tonight. So, I guess I will have to take it one day at a time.

At any rate, congrats to all of the July 2014 sleevers and I am looking forward to staying in touch!

Earlean :)

I had my surgery yesterday 7/7. I was supposed to have the gastric bypass but he found a football sized ovarian cyst which interfered with my intestines so he converted to a gastric sleeve. He was able to remove 3 litres of Fluid from the cyst but there is another 2 litres left, so it looks like another surgery down the road. I had researched the gastric bypass seven ways to Sunday but now I have the sleeve and don't know what to expect. Looks like I start my research all over again! Small price to pay for a thinner future. I'm glad he was able to do something. I would have been so upset if I woke up with nothing! Otherwise I'm doing well. I have discomfort due to the gas. When does that start to pass? Soon I hope. Good to hear from the Julyers!

Hi July Sleevers, It seems like we are all so different, gpippin66 I think it's amazing your Dr. was able to help you! I had mine July 3rd and am doing exceptionally well. walking helps with that pumped in surgery air and mine seems to be dissipating. I only have a little pain and am working through it. My starting weight was 316 lbs when I started this process and as of today I am at 258lbs and cannot believe that sounds so good. I've been on Liquids since memorial day and have 2 weeks to go, I cannot wait to make changes but fear it at the same time. I look forward to your success stories and any suggestions as our diets change. I'm not sure how to puree meat I would love suggestions since it sounds like most people are going to solids sooner than later? I went back to work right away and still feel a little tired but I cannot complain at all, this will have saved my life by staving off disease. Really any suggestions as you move to soft foods and pureed meat would be helpful, I'ma planner.

Hi sleevers had mine July 1 still trying to get used to this new life. I want to go out and about but Im afraid to venture out alone due to the low energy. I manage to get around in the house mild cooking for my teenagers washing dishes but no heavy chores. Its hard getting down these Protein Shakes. I currently drink Isopure ready made shakes because prior to surgery they taste good to me but now that is not the case.My nutritionist suggest I try a different kind so I ordered a sample kit from Unjury will let you all know if its all the rave.I am afraid to weigh myself I'm trying to wait until my

first post op visit.Really tired of liquids and it is so hard to take my Vitamins and other pills its such a chore I just dump them in yogurt one at a time.Good luck future sleevers.

I had my sleeve on 7/3/14 everything seemed to be going great, I was doing good on my liquid diet but I continued to get hungry so last night I slipped and ate 4 crackers, 2 spoons of rice, and I bit my husband meat. I feel so bad I paid for it last night and this morning. I called my nut and told her about my slip now I'm going crazy thinking I might get something stuck in my stitches. I'm so going back to the basics I will not do that again I'm so over it......

Hi! I had my sleeve on July 1st. I had a little of a rough time after the surgery with nausea and gas. I was unable to handle the. pain meds. I am doing much better a week later. I have no appetite still. It's been hard getting Protein and Water in at this point. My highest weight was 380, I lost some prior to the pre op liquid diet and have definitely lost since the surgery. I am down 39 lbs ! I have a long journey ahead of me but I am taking day by day, pound by pound. I am excited about starting my new life. I have no buyers remorse at this point and hope I never do. I wish all of the July sleevers the best in this new adventure of our lives!

Going for my first postop visit tomorrow. I never thought I'd be so happy to get back to the Muscle Milk. I don't get to purée for at least another week. I got sick from the Isopure this am. I just can't stomach it anymore. I think the broth and Popsicles have been keeping me going. Not sure how much I've lost, but I'm just so excited. The gas pains have gotten A LOT better. I've been as active as possible. I think that's helped. Downside is that my energy level is through the floor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
