JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post surgery and a bit miserable. My weight lost is steady. I'm guessing I'm down about 18 pounds. I'm excited but no mood to Celebrate. I am extremely fatigued and having difficulty eating soft food. My caloric intake is no more than 400 a day. I feel miserable eating. It feels like I swallow more air pockets than anything. Anyone out there having similar problems? Any suggestions? I also had a hiatal hernia repair. I'm wondering if that is causing me so much discomfort

I was told to eat NO LESS THAN 550 calories a day .. Maybe you aren't getting enough nutrients

I'm certain I am not. It's so difficult trying to get that much but I will start aiming for the 550. Thats a little less intimidating. Thanks!

I'm afraid I've lost focus already. I've been on a stall for quite awhile but I'm not eating perfectly either. Everyday I say I'm going to do better and it doesn't happen. Feeling pretty down :(

the sweet stuff got to me too... I found Unjury chicken clear broth protein... I had it every day.. :)

I was sleeved on 7/28. I am having very few problems as a whole -- no problem eating or drinking. My Dr has us on liquids/soft for the first 2 weeks. I am down about 12-14 pounds since surgery.

I am not allowed eggs yet. I have to tell you-- I am getting tired of all the sweet foods! Also, you know how they tell you that your tastes may change after surgery? I have never been a picky eater at all, but about Wednesday or so my body decided that it no longer liked the unflavored Protein I was putting in stuff. It's like suddenly my body rebelled and said "I am not a baby cow. Quit feeding me all this milk!".

Frustrating, but I am trying to find a workaround!

It seem like a lot of people are starting to eat solid foods. I will be on the next stage of starting soft solids but I don't know if my stomach is ready. Also when I am at work I get gas pain in my stomach. I don't know what is the cause but it makes me not able to eat for the rest of the day until I go home,. Also when I drink I heard gurgling in my throat which is so embarrassing. I just don't know how to keep the air out.

I can't seem to gain control if the air either, if that is even possible. I am eating the right foods, just not enough. I find that if I focus on "protein" I eat the right foods

It gets frustrating, but we can do it!! No way we're going through all of this for nothing right!

I have constant gurgling too. And sometimes it's super loud & embarrassing. Is this normal? I thought maybe it was a result of the hiatal hernia repair. I certainly hope it goes away soon!

My sleeve surgery was July 14, 2014; I am now almost 4 weeks out. My surgery was a bit complicated; had a Realize gastric band removed due to some complications & had a ventral hernia repair done as well. I had 8 incisions in all; 3 are 3" long. So my physical recovery has been slower than normal. I cannot lift anything over 5lbs for 2 more weeks yet. But overall I feel great! A bit sore & really tired of mush, oh yes! But having had the gastric band for almost 4 years I knew what was in store; the post-op diet is so similar. I was so looking forward to this & I am not disappointed. I am being a good patient, which is very unusual for me LOL but I don't want to screw this up. I am 63 years old so I am almost at the age limit for being approved for bariatric surgery; I don't care as much about "reaching my goal" as I do for just getting more healthy! So my "goal" is to not have to take blood pressure & cholesterol meds! I will be following this thread; good luck to all! :)

I had a hiatal hernia repair too. I have heard of others dealing with the gurgling too, I think it might be normal. I believe it's due to me drinking as opposed to sipping. I just hope it stops in the coming days because it's a horrible sound

I have the same gurgling noise. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. Hmmmm, let's hope it goes away as everything heals. :)

Also, I'm not rushing things.... Learning to eat slowly is very tough. The last two days have been bad.... Depressed, lots of pain on the left side( they say this is normal) a little constipated and I'm getting dehydrated. Already had to go to ER for fluids LAST week... Can't seem to get it all in!! So I'm going to stick with Soups and my mashed taters and gravy.

Hello! My surgery was July 31. I was in the hospital for 5 days. Staples should be removed this coming Tuesday (I can't wait!) so far lost about 15 or 16 pounds. I'm really nervous about eating and yet I'm also starting to get a bit obsessed with wanting to eat "real" food. When I go to the doc on Tuesday he should graduate me to soft foods so we'll see if that helps. I'm not "hungry" per se, but the last couple of days I'm starting to think about food A LOT (and missing it.) Part of it might be that I was originally scheduled for 6/9 and then again for 7/28 and then finally had the actual surgery on 7/31. So that was a lot of starting and stopping the liquid diet pre-op.

Let's support each other and have success together - not just in the short-term but more importantly in the LONG-term!

Cheers,

M.

Hello are you getting in your Water and Protein? If not that makes you much weaker. I would concentrate on those 2 thing's first and then calories. When I'm hydrated & full of protein I have a much better day. Good luck. 12days post op down 8lbs plus the 10.5lbs I gained in hospital. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
